This meditation arrived on my desktop for today's feast from here.
May it be done to me according to your word. . . . (Luke 1:38)
This is a special day for all of us in the Americas, because it is the feastday of our Patroness. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the one who watches over and pleads for our nation and all the nations of our hemisphere before the throne of God. And her petition is most efficacious because she was able to say, "May it be done to me according to your word."
This is the great "Yes" that resounds through all of human history. His name is Jesus. Because the blessed Virgin had the courage and the trust to say, "Yes," to God, we have now the Savior that we do. All of creation waited for the whole long time for the redemption that was wrought by a simple yes.
And so, as we wait for Christmas, let us show our true devotion to this courageous woman, the woman who could say yes. Let us show true devotion by imitating her "Yes" in response to what God may ask of us. Imitation is true devotion; let our yes transform the world, or our small part of it, by bringing Jesus to those around us.
