I am Uncomfortable

I have been growing increasingly uncomfortable with what I have read, and what I have written about sexuality, these last few months. I have had occasion to look at my own sinfulness, particularly as it relates to my sexuality over my lifetime, spanning nearly 60 years. I have also had occasion to look at homosexuality for personal reasons, and because it was a serious part of Stephen Boissoin's HRC difficulties that are not as yet resolved.

When I started this blog, I called it Freedom Through Truth, and have sought to find the truth out about many things. It has caused me to grow in my faith. When I originally thought I was going to write about HRCs and their impact on our society, it has become a challenge to my faith, more my beliefs, and things and people that I value in my life.

But, along the way, I have often looked at Catholic Church teaching, because in my heart although I know that Catholic individuals are full of sin, like all other individuals, I believe very firmly that the teaching of the Church is sound, based on scripture and on the traditions of the Church. It is both biblical and contextual, and it works for me, giving me a foundation on which to stand firm.

I have been trying to understand love for our fellow man, without labelling homosexuals and heterosexuals, pornographers and other sinners, but it is quite difficult in our polarized world. But, I think I came across a place to explore my thoughts, feelings and the desires of my heart accidentally, as if there are any accidents in God's plan for my life. I encountered Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body, which before anybody gets off on the wrong track, is unfortunately a label too.

Theology of the Body is the topic of 129 audiences the Pontiff gave from September 1979 to November 1984, in his Wednesday audiences with the faithful. I intend to explore this work, which has been published and is not being taught.

It has been my opinion that Pope John Paul was one of the 3 holiest Christian people on the earth in the 20th century, the others being Mother Theresa, and Billy Graham.

So, it is my intention to intersperse short articles on the 129 audiences into my writing over the next while so you can share in the beauty of his teaching as well. I hope that my own thoughts and feelings about what I read will not hinder your enjoyment or edification from these inspiring teachings.
