Dear Reader:
I wrote the piece below which has just been published by Catholic Online, to urge all Americans to pray and to act against the injustice of a Health Care Bill that will put even more unborn children at risk of being aborted. We in Canada have a terrible track record when it comes to allowing the unborn to be killed on our watch, but we and the world are watching the American experience at this time, hoping in our hearts that the true will of the people will be followed. Join me in praying for our American brethren.
The world watches as America wrestles with health care reform. What kind of leadership will we see our friends and neighbours take?
We in Canada, know more today than you, our American neighbours and friends and relatives, about how to be politically correct, how to look the other way, how to do the expedient thing.
LONDON, ON. (Catholic Online) - Jennifer Hartline, has written a compelling piece here yesterday for Catholic Online. It is a clarion call, a call to action if you will. I beg you to heed it. It is far more important than you realise.- - -
No matter how many people in the world slam the United States of America for this and that, you must know that we are all watching, and for many of us our breath is bated, as we look aghast at what appears to be happening.
The world has its eyes on you as you wrestle with the problems of providing health care to each of your citizens. We all know in our hearts that health care is about care not about murder; and the disembodiment, the tearing apart of unborn children in their mother's womb is not health care.
When the dust settles and decisions have been made, and action is then taken, what will we see? Will the world look back on this debate and see that it was where the American people took a stand for life, as the majority want, or will we look back and see that the silent majority was just that - a silent majority - and the vocal minority of men and women who despise life take control, further greasing the slippery slope of political correctness, and moral turpitude with which we have all become familiar in our day and in all of our lands?
We in Canada, know more today than you, our American neighbours and friends and relatives, about how to be politically correct, how to look the other way, how to do the expedient thing.
It is not that we do not know what is right in our hearts, but we have lost sight of our Creator and are moulding our world not in His image, but in our own distorted image.
You, my friends, have behind you the Declaration of Independence with its statement that "All men are created equal" which though it has not ever been fully lived is yet a higher call as a nation to greatness, and there have been signs of greatness throughout the life of your nation.
This call to stop the current health care bill is a call to greatness. All men are "created" equal, not born equal, and when does creation occur? Of course, it occurs when life is formed in the womb, and continues until natural death.
You also have the Pledge of Allegiance, an oath of loyalty to the nation as it reads: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
Your nation is one under God, with liberty and justice for all, not just the powerful and the rich. Tell your political leaders what you require of them, and above all pray, pray, pray for them.
If you can do nothing else, then pray, and if you can do everything else, still pray. Pray that the God of all mercy and compassion will stop your legislators from enacting legislation that will further weaken the cause of the unborn.
To all non Americans who read this piece, I beg you to pray for our friends, pray for them to have the courage to stand on their convictions, to do the right thing, because it is the right thing, and because it pleases God.
May God have mercy on all those who stand against Him and the smallest of His little ones.
The truth is that God will not be mocked, and so He will deal with those who try to mock Him. These are important days for America and for the world.
